Thoughts about ending your life, or wishing you were not here, are more common than most people think. They can come as a passing thought, a persistent wish to escape pain, or, for some, as a plan. However they show up, they are a signal that something is hurting badly and needs care.
These thoughts are a symptom, not a verdict. They often come with depression, anxiety, grief, serious illness, exhaustion, substance use, or overwhelming stress. When these are treated, the thoughts often lessen. Their intensity rises and falls, and a moment of unbearable pain is not the same as forever.
“Talking about it does not make it worse. Your pain is real, you deserve help, and reaching out is a strong thing to do.”
If any of these apply to you, or to someone you know, please reach out. You do not have to wait until things get worse.
Thinking about being better off dead, or not being here.
Feeling hopeless, trapped, or like a burden to others.
Emotional or physical pain that feels too much to bear.
Pulling away from people, or saying goodbye in unusual ways.
Increased drinking, drug use, or taking risks.
Including sudden calm after a long period of distress.
Suicidal thoughts rarely have one cause. Several things can combine, and none of them is a personal failing.
And other mental health conditions.
Losing someone or something deeply important.
Relationship breakdown, or feeling cut off.
Pressures that feel impossible to escape.
Chronic pain, illness, or disability.
These can make thoughts more intense.
Sleep deprivation and exhaustion.
Trauma, bullying, or a family history of suicide or mental illness.
You will be met with respect and without judgement. Our first priority is your safety, and you can speak at your own pace.
We ask gently about your thoughts, what has been happening, and what support you have.
We assess the level of support you need right now.
Warning signs, ways to cope, people to contact, and steps to stay safe.
Therapy, treatment of depression or anxiety, and ongoing contact.
We listen first, explain what we think is happening in language you can follow, and only suggest tests and treatments that make sense for you.
You will be heard and taken seriously.
We explain how your information is used, and when it may need to be shared to keep you safe.
You will not be rushed.
We make a plan together.
If you want it, we involve your family or trusted people.
We will not leave you after one visit.
A clear, structured path from your first consultation to the care that is right for you.
You will be listened to, at your own pace.
About your thoughts, so we can keep you safe.
Looking for medical contributors such as thyroid problems.
Depression, anxiety, or other conditions.
Made together, for when thoughts get stronger.
Help with hopelessness and distress, and ways to cope.
Medicines when needed, and trusted people involved with your permission.
Because the days after seeking help matter.
A single call, message, or conversation is enough to start. At DR Care, our team is here to listen and help you through this.
