Dengue is a viral infection spread by infected Aedes mosquitoes, which breed in clean, stagnant water. In Hyderabad, cases rise during and after the monsoon. For most people it improves in about a week. In some, blood vessels leak plasma, platelets fall, bleeding can occur, and in serious cases blood pressure drops dangerously (shock).
Dengue follows three phases: the fever phase (days 1 to 3), the critical phase (around days 3 to 7, often as the fever falls), when complications are most likely, and the recovery phase.
“There is no specific antiviral medicine for dengue. Treatment is careful fluids, symptom relief, and close monitoring. Knowing the warning signs matters far more than any single remedy.”
These usually appear around the time the fever begins to settle. If you notice any of them, contact a doctor urgently, the same day.
Severe or continuous stomach pain, or tenderness in the belly.
Persistent or repeated vomiting that makes drinking difficult.
From the nose or gums, blood in vomit or stool, or black stools.
Restlessness, irritability, or unusual sleepiness.
Little or no urine for 6 to 8 hours.
Cold, clammy skin, rapid breathing, or a racing heartbeat.
Dengue spreads through the bite of an infected mosquito, not from person to person. Some people are more likely to develop complications.
Children can deteriorate more quickly and need close watching.
Need careful monitoring throughout the illness.
More likely to develop complications and deteriorate quickly.
Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart, kidney, or liver disease.
A later infection with a different type can be more severe.
Bleeding disorders, or taking blood-thinning medicines.
Not drinking enough can make the illness worse.
Aspirin, ibuprofen, or diclofenac can increase bleeding risk.
We confirm the diagnosis, read your reports together with your symptoms, and set up a clear monitoring plan.

Checking for early signs of leakage or bleeding.
NS1 early, antibodies later, and repeated blood counts.
Platelets read together with haematocrit and symptoms.

Days 3 to 7, often as the fever falls, is when complications are most likely.
Anyone with fever for 2 days or more, a dengue-positive report, a low platelet count, or weakness during recovery can consult DR Care for prompt evaluation.
Especially during or after the monsoon.
Needing guidance on monitoring and home care.
Unsure what the number means for you.
Unusually sleepy, not drinking, or passing little urine.
With fever, needing careful monitoring.
Diabetes, BP, heart, kidney, or liver disease.
Still very weak, or appetite has not returned.
Wanting a clear plan for what to watch.
Often around day 3 to 7, when the fever begins to fall. This is the critical phase, when plasma can leak from the blood vessels and platelets can drop. Warning signs such as severe stomach pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, or unusual drowsiness mean you should seek medical help the same day.
There is no single number that applies to everyone. Doctors look at the platelet trend together with symptoms, the haematocrit, and signs of bleeding or leakage. Many people with low platelets recover without transfusion, but a rapidly falling count, or any warning sign, needs medical attention.
It is not needed for everyone with a low count. Doctors usually reserve it for people with significant bleeding or in specific high-risk situations. It is a decision for your doctor.
Paracetamol is generally considered safe at the right dose. Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, and similar medicines unless your doctor advises, as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
Staying well hydrated is one of the most important parts of dengue care. Your doctor will tell you how much is right for you or your child. Oral rehydration solution, soups, and other safe fluids are often advised. If you cannot drink, are vomiting repeatedly, or are passing very little urine, see a doctor.
There is no strong medical evidence that it treats dengue or reliably raises platelets. Please do not use it as a substitute for medical care.
Most people feel better within one to two weeks, though tiredness can last longer. Your doctor may advise a follow-up blood test to make sure your counts have recovered.
Go straight away if there is severe or continuous stomach pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, black stools, extreme drowsiness, confusion, fainting, a seizure, severe breathing difficulty, or cold, clammy skin with a weak, fast pulse. Children, pregnant women, and older adults can deteriorate more quickly, so please do not delay.
