Uric acid is a natural waste product made when the body breaks down purines, found in your cells and in certain foods. Normally it dissolves in the blood and leaves through the kidneys.
When there is too much of it (hyperuricaemia), it can form needle-shaped crystals. In a joint, they cause gout, a sudden, intensely painful arthritis. In the kidneys, they can form stones. High uric acid is often linked with excess weight, high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, fatty liver, and kidney disease.
“A high uric acid level does not always lead to symptoms, and it does not always need medicine. What matters is the full picture, not a single number on a report.”
Gout often begins suddenly, and typically at night. A raised level alone often causes no symptoms, and many people find out only through a routine test.
Severe pain in a joint, most often the big toe, often at night.
So tender that even the touch of a bedsheet hurts.
Pain returning, sometimes in other joints, after weeks or months.
Firm, chalky lumps (tophi) after repeated attacks over time.
Pain in waves spreading to the groin, which can be a kidney stone.
Blood in the urine, burning, or repeated urinary infections.
More than one factor often works together. These are the main possibilities doctors consider.
Organ meats, red meat, and some seafood can raise uric acid.
Beer, other alcohol, and fructose-sweetened drinks.
Extra weight increases uric acid and makes it harder to clear.
Reduced kidney function lets uric acid build up.
Too little fluid, crash diets, or fasting can trigger attacks.
Some bodies naturally make more uric acid or clear less.
High BP, diabetes, cholesterol, fatty liver, thyroid, or psoriasis.
Water tablets, low-dose aspirin, and some others. Do not stop them yourself.
We confirm what is causing the pain, decide whether you need medicine at all, and look at your overall health.
Joint symptoms, food and drink, water intake, weight, kidney stones, medicines, and family history.
Checking swelling, warmth, tenderness, movement, and lumps under the skin.
Uric acid, kidney, sugar, and cholesterol tests, and joint fluid or imaging if needed.
Attack relief, lifestyle changes, or uric acid lowering, with regular reviews.
We listen first, explain what we think is happening in language you can follow, and only suggest tests and treatments that make sense for you.
You will not be hurried through your history or your questions.
What your uric acid result means, and what it does not, without heavy jargon.
Your joints, kidneys, health conditions, medicines, and food habits shape the plan.
Advice that fits everyday Indian meals, not a long list of banned foods.
Whether you need medicine now, what it is for, and how long it may be needed.
Uric acid care involves regular reviews, and we help you keep it on track.
A clear, structured path from your first consultation to the care that is right for you.
Your joints, diet, fluids, medicines, and family history.
Looking for swelling, warmth, and lumps under the skin.
Uric acid may be repeated after an attack settles.
What your report means for your joints and kidneys.
Medicines chosen carefully for your kidneys, stomach, and heart.
A daily medicine adjusted with blood tests to reach a target.
Enough water, less beer and sugary drinks; dals and vegetables are fine.
Reviewing levels, medicines, and related conditions.
A report is not a diagnosis. At DR Care, our team is here to explain your results, settle the pain, and protect your joints and kidneys for the long term.

A high value does not always mean gout, and joint pain is not always uric acid.
People with a high uric acid report, sudden joint pain and swelling, repeated attacks, or kidney stones can consult DR Care for a clear explanation and a plan.
Wanting to know what it means.
Red, hot, and very painful, often the big toe.
Pain in the same joint, again and again.
A history of stones, or side pain in waves.
Wanting to understand your own risk.
With a raised uric acid level.
Or medicines that can raise uric acid.
Practical advice for everyday Indian meals.
No. High uric acid is a blood test finding. Gout is the painful joint condition that can occur when uric acid forms crystals in a joint. Many people with a high level never get gout, and some people with gout have a level that does not look very high during an attack.
Often not. Many people with no symptoms are managed with lifestyle changes and regular monitoring. Medicines are usually considered when there are repeated gout attacks, joint damage, lumps under the skin, kidney stones, or kidney disease. Your doctor will decide based on your whole picture.
It helps to cut down on alcohol, especially beer, sugary drinks, organ meats, and large amounts of red meat and some seafood. Drinking plenty of water helps. Dals and vegetables are generally fine, and you do not need to cut them out unless your doctor advises it. Avoid crash diets and long fasts.
It can usually be controlled, but is often a long-term condition. Some people can bring their levels down with weight loss, diet changes, and treating other causes. Others need medicines, sometimes for a long time. Your doctor will explain what to expect in your case.
Not on your own. A normal report often means the medicine is working. Stopping it can let the level rise again and bring back attacks. Your doctor will tell you if and when it is safe to reduce or stop.
It can be linked with kidney stones and, in some people, with kidney problems. Kidney disease can also cause uric acid to rise. That is why your kidney function is usually checked, and why drinking enough water matters.
This depends on your situation. If you are on treatment, your doctor will check it regularly, often every few months at first. If you have a high level without symptoms, your doctor will advise a schedule. Testing in the middle of a painful attack can be misleading, so your doctor may ask you to repeat it later.
Go straight away, or see a doctor the same day, if a joint is hot, red, swollen, and very painful with fever or chills, if you have severe side or back pain with fever or vomiting, if you cannot pass urine, or if there is heavy blood in the urine.
